Free tool for screenshots
Windows 7 introduced a much needed little tool called the “Snipping Tool.” The snipping tool allows you to take a quick snapshot of a window, error message, document… whatever is on the screen! Using the snipping tool is super easy. It allows you to save the “snip” as an image file to email or share with someone else.
The snipping tool exists in Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Here is how to use the “Snipping Tool”
- Windows 7: Go to START > Programs > Accessories > Snipping Tool
Windows 8: Go to START > Programs > Windows Accessories > Snipping Tool - Click New to take a new snip
- After the snip is complete you’ll be brought to the Snipping Tool Editor. From here you’ll have a pen tool and highlighter to draw on the snip. You’ll also be able to copy (to paste in another program), save as an image file or email the snip. Pretty nifty!

You can capture part or all of your PC screen, add notes, save the snip, or email it right from the Snipping Tool window.
